The 2027 Solar Eclipse

Are you an eclipse chaser? The only safe way to watch partial solar eclipses is through specialized eye protection that complies with the ISO safety standards. Whether you want to watch a partial solar eclipse in Maine or a total solar eclipse in Luxor, Egypt, you need to purchase solar eclipse protective glasses, get an eclipse map and book any accommodations, as they tend to sell out during eclipse season.

What to Expect During the 2027 Solar Eclipse

The 2027 eclipse event will be busy, but preparation is vital to enjoying it. Find the perfect location to view the eclipse — consider checking local libraries or astronomy clubs for any events you can attend during the solar eclipse. If you don’t have eclipse glasses, get them in advance and purchase them from trusted sellers. On August 2, 2027, a total solar eclipse will occur in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. In Africa, the path of totality will cross over Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, and Somalia. In Europe, the path of totality will cross over Spain and Gibraltar (U.K.). In the Middle East, the path of totality will cross over Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.

In the U.S., a partial solar eclipse will occur in parts of Maine. The maximum duration of totality for this eclipse will be 6 minutes and 23 seconds.

The map shows the path of totality over Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. To experience the eclipse’s total phase, you must be located within the path of totality represented on the map below. Areas outside the path of totality will get a partial solar eclipse only.

How to Safely Watch

When viewing the eclipse, always wear your solar eclipse safety glasses to avoid severe eye injury. You can remove them when the moon completely covers the sun during a total eclipse. Never remove them when looking at the sun directly.
